ABOUT HEPATIC FUNCTION PANELS

The hepatic function panel, also known as a liver panel, is a group of blood tests that assesses liver health and function. It measures several enzymes, proteins, and substances including ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin (total and direct), albumin, and total protein. These markers help detect liver inflammation, damage, infection, or conditions like hepatitis and fatty liver disease.

This test is recommended if you have symptoms like fatigue, jaundice, dark urine, or abdominal pain, or if you’re monitoring the effects of medications, alcohol use, or have a liver-related condition.

The panel includes ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin (total and direct), albumin, and total protein—key markers of liver health and function.

It can help detect liver inflammation, damage, or bile duct problems and monitor the progression or improvement of liver conditions over time.

Fasting for 8–12 hours may be required depending on your provider’s instructions.
