ABOUT C-REACTIVE PROTEIN TESTS

The C-reactive protein (high sensitivity) or hs-CRP test is used to detect subtle inflammation in the body. Unlike standard CRP tests, the high-sensitivity version can pick up even low-grade inflammation, which is a known risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and other chronic conditions. This test is especially useful when combined with other cardiovascular risk markers such as cholesterol levels.

Consider this test if you have risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, or a family history of cardiovascular issues. It’s also helpful for those managing chronic inflammatory conditions.

The test measures the level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in your blood, an indicator of systemic inflammation.

Elevated hs-CRP levels can suggest an increased risk of heart disease or the presence of ongoing inflammation, helping guide preventive or therapeutic strategies.

No special preparation is necessary. However, avoid testing if you’re currently sick or recovering from an injury, as these can temporarily elevate CRP levels.
