ABOUT BASIC METABOLIC PANEL

The basic metabolic panel (BMP) is a routine blood test that measures essential substances in your blood to assess your overall health. It includes tests for glucose, calcium, sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate (CO2), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatinine. These markers help monitor kidney function, fluid and electrolyte balance, and blood sugar regulation. It’s often used in regular health checkups or before surgery.

The BMP is ideal if you’re getting a general health screening, have symptoms like fatigue or confusion, or have conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disease.

This panel checks glucose, calcium, sodium, potassium, chloride, CO2 (bicarbonate), BUN, and creatinine—all key indicators of metabolic and kidney health.

Results can indicate issues like dehydration, kidney dysfunction, blood sugar imbalance, or electrolyte abnormalities, helping guide further testing or treatment.

Fasting for 8–12 hours may be recommended depending on your provider’s instructions. A simple blood sample will be collected.
