ABOUT ALBUMIN TESTS
The bariatric labs panel is designed to monitor nutritional health after weight loss surgery. It evaluates essential vitamins, minerals, and general blood health markers to detect deficiencies and complications that may arise post-surgery. Regular testing ensures patients maintain proper nutrition, prevent long-term health issues, and track recovery progress.
This test is recommended if you have had bariatric surgery, are planning surgery, or are experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, hair loss, weakness, numbness, or poor wound healing. It is also useful for long-term follow-up to ensure your body continues to absorb nutrients effectively and to reduce the risk of serious complications.
This panel includes:
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) – supports nerve and muscle health
Vitamin B12 and Folate – essential for red blood cell formation and energy
Vitamin A (Retinol) – important for vision, skin, and immune function
Vitamin D (25-Hydroxy) – regulates calcium, bone health, and immunity
Vitamin E – an antioxidant supporting cell and tissue health
Vitamin K – important for blood clotting and bone strength
Ferritin – measures stored iron levels
Percent Saturation with Iron and IBC – evaluates iron metabolism
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) – checks kidney, liver, and electrolyte balance
CBC with Platelet and Differential – assesses overall blood and immune health
Lipid Panel – measures cholesterol and triglycerides
Hemoglobin A1C – tracks blood sugar control over time
The bariatric labs panel provides a complete view of your nutritional health after weight loss surgery. It can detect vitamin and mineral deficiencies, monitor liver, kidney, and metabolic function, and assess blood sugar and cholesterol. These insights help guide supplement use, dietary changes, and medical treatment to support long-term health and successful recovery.
To prepare for a bariatric labs panel:
Fasting – Some tests (such as glucose and lipids) may require fasting for 8–12 hours. Confirm with your provider.
Medication Review – Provide a list of all medications and supplements you take, as some may affect results.
Stay Consistent – Maintain your usual diet and supplement schedule before the test for accurate comparisons over time.
Hydration – Drink water before your test to make blood collection easier.
Always follow any additional instructions from your healthcare provider.
