ABOUT TOTAL T4 TESTS
The Total T4 test measures the total amount of thyroxine in the bloodstream, including both the active (free) and protein-bound forms. T4 plays a critical role in regulating metabolism, heart rate, and body temperature. This test is often used in conjunction with TSH and other thyroid tests to help diagnose thyroid disorders and assess how well the thyroid is functioning.
If you have symptoms like fatigue, weight changes, dry skin, or sensitivity to cold or heat, or if your doctor suspects a thyroid issue, this test may be appropriate.
The test measures the total level of thyroxine (T4), including both free (active) and bound (inactive) hormone.
